An Ode to the Forgotten Women of History | Tanishka Jain

To the women who carry the weight of a country's oppression in their spines; broken legs in infancy, who crawl and stand up. You will outlive us. To the dalit women of India in brick kilns, in cages of caste system, in broken tea cups, in the bleeding hands of justice, we don't dare speak your name. Please hate us. Your country has failed you, more than any of her daughters. You, the heirloom of heritage. You, the scapegoat of a nation. You, whom the history does not remember. Please rewrite the history. The silk-threaded web of caste system and you, the fly with a broken wing. You, the knife with the sharpest blade. You, the land on which this nation exists. Your voice is an earthquake. Your freedom is salvation. India cries in your every tear, burns and drowns herself in your pain. To the Dalit Women of India, We bow our heads at your feet. We owe you our lives.                                                              ~ Tanishka Jain
